Released in October 1999, the Sony MZ-E90 has a magnesium case to reduce weight and increase strength.
At the time of release Sony claimed that it was the world's smallest portable MD player, and that it delivered the longest playback performance (approximately 56 hours when using a gumstick battery supplemented with an external AA battery).
It is dedicated to disc playback, and does not have disc recording functionality.
Due to its age it does not support MDLP.
It features 40 second anti-shock protection, and digital megabass.
It weighs 70 grams without a battery or disc installed.
It has a 3.5 mm headphone jack for audio output.
