Tested and functional. Charged a SONY NH-14WM(A) Ni-MH gumstick battery from flat to fully charged, then tested the battery in a Sony MZ-E520. 
Note that you need to slide the top cover across in order to open the charger. You can also use the slider on the side to push a battery out of the charger.

This model was originally sold with portable MiniDisc players such as the MZ-E55, MZ-E75, MZ-E700, and MZ-E900 before battery charging stands became the norm.
This product is designed for use in Japan, and has a Japan Type A plug.

LED States:
Fast Flashing - Checking remaining battery capacity.
Intermittent Flashing - High speed charge in progress (high speed charging is not performed if there is already sufficient charge in the battery)
Lit - Normal speed charge in progress.
Unlit - Following the above phases, charging has completed.
