Disk Insert - The OPEN button cover is missing and the spring that pulls the latch back into place to keep the lid closed is either missing or broken.
It's possible to manually slide the button back into the closed position but as the spring doesn't work it's easy to knock the button back into the open position.
A rubber band, tape, or similar could be used to ensure the lid stays shut.
Also, the latch inside the lid is very slightly mis-aligned and can make contact with the edge of a disc after inserting a disc and trying to close the lid. As long as you are aware of this it's possible to push the latch outward slightly so that the lid can be closed.
Once a disc is in and the lid closed, it's possible to play discs as expected.
Disk Eject - OK

Product Information:
Released in December 1999, the Panasonic SJ-MJ75 is dedicated to disc playback, and does not have disc recording functionality.
Due to its age it does not support MDLP.
Panasonic claimed that it would deliver up to 21 hours of playback from a gumstick battery.
It features a magnesium body, making it very light. At the time of release it was the lightest portable MD player in the world.
It weighs 61 grams without a battery or disc installed.
It has a 3.5 mm headphone jack for audio output.
